TRUSTEES' REPORT

FOR THE YEAR ENDED 28 FEBRUARY 2018

During the past year Jamaica 2000 team have taken a supportive role with the development of several new initiatives, with a view to relaunching and rebranding Jamaica 2000 at some stage.

We have continued to support and follow up work from the Sept 2016 visit to Jamaica, which resulted in the establishment of the "Jamaica Wales Alliance". This is being managed by our sister organisation, Leaming Links International, and is supported by the Jamaican High Commission. See www.jamaiawalesalliance.com

One of the threads out of the visit which Jamaica 2000 is planning to take forward are the development of Jamaica Culture Clubs in UK, working with Jamaican Cultural Development Commission JCDC, and the Jamaican High Commission. The JCDC team are very interested in taking this forward and some further discussions have been initiated.

The visit also gave Liz Millman and Audrey West, the opportunity to visit the "Jamiekan Langwjj Unit" at the University of be West Indies. Professor Devonish is now retired and we will be able to explore possibilities for the next steps the Jamiekan Language with the new Director.

Over the years Jamaica 2000 has a great deal, especially jn gaining recognition for Jamaican as a language, as well as organising and supporting countless exchange visits. Unfortunately the British Council does not currently support Jamaican School links, but the expertise and experiences of our work is enabling other approaches to be explored.

We have also been working to develop links with "Promoting our Heritage" the very successful enterprise set up and managed by Jamaica 2000 Director, Garfield Robinson, and the development of educational packages could be a focus for the future.

The Jamaica 2000 team have also continued to support the North Wales Jamaica Society and Leaming Links International's activities and research into History in Wales.

Thanks go to our team members for continuing to keep focussed on Jamaican interests, investing a great deal of their own time and energy.

Stephen Brooks

Chair, Jamaica 2000 on behalf of Trustees

Financial review

There has been no significant income or expenditure this year, as the team and our activities have been supported as part of other initiatives, however plans are jn hand to explore froject funding to take forward the two main project ideas: recording the story of our efforts to gain recognition for Jamaican as a language, and to support development of Jamaican Culture Clubs.
